Spring Clean-Up

After winter in Belmont, yards look pretty rough. You've got dead leaves matted down everywhere from fall that never got cleaned up properly. Branches that came down during those ice storms we always get. All that salt damage along the driveway edges. Everything just looks brown and nasty.

Spring cleanup means we rake out all that dead stuff, cut back the perennials that died back, edge your beds so they actually have some definition again, and haul away all the debris. We also check for any damage to plants from the snow load – sometimes those shrubs near the house get pretty beat up.

The timing matters with this stuff. You cant really start to early because the ground needs to dry out first. But wait to long and your fighting with new growth while trying to clean up old mess. We usually hit properties in late March or early April depending on how fast things thaw out.

People near Payson Park and that whole area tend to need more work cause the big trees drop so much stuff. But honestly every property needs this service unless you stayed on top of it yourself all winter, which nobody does.

Fall Clean-Up

This is probably the biggest service we do. Fall in Belmont means leaves. So many leaves. If you got maples or oaks anywhere near your property, you know what I'm talking about.

Most properties need at least 2-3 cleanups during fall because the leaves don't all drop at once. We come through, blow everything out of the beds, rake or mulch the lawn, and haul it all away. Some people try to just mow over them but that only works if you stay on top of it every few days.

The problem with skipping fall cleanup is your yard looks terrible all winter, and then in spring all those matted leaves kill the grass underneath. You end up with dead patches everywhere that you gotta reseed. Way easier to just deal with it in the fall.

We usually start seeing properties that need cleanup around mid-October. By Thanksgiving most of the leaves are down. The properties around Belmont Hill with all those big old trees – those need the most attention. Some of those yards can fill up 20-30 bags easy just from one cleanup.

Also nobody talks about this but gutters fill up with leaves too and then you get ice dams in winter. We don't do gutters but its worth getting someone to clean those while the fall cleanup is happening.

Bi-Weekly Weeding

Weeds grow faster than grass. That's just how it is. You can have a decent looking landscape in June and by mid-July its overrun with crabgrass and clover and all sorts of other stuff you don't want.

Bi-weekly weeding means we come every two weeks during growing season and pull or treat the weeds in your beds and along edges. This keeps things looking clean and also stops the weeds from going to seed and making next year worse.

The key is consistency. You cant let weeds get established. Once there root systems are in deep, there way harder to deal with. But if you stay on top of it, the job gets easier over time because your pulling less and less.

We do most of our weeding properties from May through September. That's when everything is actively growing. Some properties near Pleasant Street and that area get more weeds cause the soil is different there. More sun exposure too which weeds love.

Hand pulling is better than chemicals for most situations. You get the whole root system out. But sometimes for stuff like bindweed or poison ivy we have to use treatments cause there's no other way to control it.

Most commercial properties look at bi-weekly weeding as a necessity not a luxury. If your trying to maintain a professional appearance, you cant have weeds everywhere. It just looks like nobody cares about the property.

Why Belmont Properties Need Regular Service

The thing about Belmont is the properties are older and the landscaping is mature. You got big trees, established beds, lots of ground to cover. This isn't new construction with three shrubs and some mulch. That means there's more to maintain. More leaves in fall. More beds that need weeding. More cleanup in spring. And if you let it go, it gets out of control fast.

Plus people notice around here. Your neighbors are maintaining there properties. The houses along Route 60 and Trapelo Road – those are visible. Commercial properties especially cant afford to look rundown.

We've been working in Belmont long enough to know what works and what doesn't. The soil here is pretty rocky in alot of places. Drainage can be an issue especially in low-lying areas near the trails. And deer are a problem if your close to the Habitat conservation area.

Keeping Your Property Looking Good Year-Round

Regular maintenance is cheaper than letting things go and then trying to fix it. A spring cleanup prevents damage to your lawn. Fall cleanup prevents problems next spring. Regular weeding prevents bigger weed problems later.

Its not complicated. Just consistent work throughout the year. Most of our clients are on a schedule where we handle spring cleanup, bi-weekly weeding from May to September, and 2-3 fall cleanups. That covers most of what a property needs.

We work with properties all over Belmont – from the big old houses near the center to commercial buildings out toward Waltham line. Every property is a little different but the basic needs are the same.

If your tired of looking at your overgrown beds or your leaves are still sitting there from last fall, give us a call. We'll come take a look and tell you what needs to happen. No pressure, just honest advice about what your property actually needs.

Landscaping FAQ's

  • How much does spring cleanup usually cost in Belmont?

It depends on your property size and how much work there is. A typical residential property runs between $300-600 for spring cleanup. If you've got alot of beds or alot of debris buildup, it could be more. We can give you an exact price after seeing the property. Commercial properties obviously cost more cause theres more area to cover.

  • When should I schedule fall cleanup?

Most people need there first cleanup in late October, then again in early November, and sometimes a final one around Thanksgiving. The timing depends on what kind of trees you have and when they drop there leaves. We usually recommend calling in September to get on the schedule before we fill up.

  • Is bi-weekly weeding really necessary or can I do monthly?

You can do monthly but your going to have more weeds between visits. Weeds can grow and spread pretty fast in two weeks – in four weeks they take over. Most of our clients find that bi-weekly keeps things looking clean without getting out of control. Monthly usually means we're spending more time each visit dealing with bigger weed problems instead of just maintaining what's already under control.
