Why Weston Properties Need Regular Landscaping Help

Weston has some really beautiful homes and commercial properties. You drive down Route 20 or through the center of town and see these amazing old houses with huge yards. But keeping those yards nice? That's a whole different story.

The weather here makes landscaping kind of a pain. Spring comes and everything grows like crazy. Then fall hits and your buried in leaves. Plus the soil around here can be pretty rocky and hard to work with, especially near the Charles River areas.

A lot of business owners on Boston Post Road tell us the same thing - they want there property to look professional but they cant keep up with it themselves. Makes sense. Your running a business, not a landscaping company.

Spring Clean-Up

After winter, your yard probably looks pretty rough. Dead branches everywhere, matted down leaves you missed in the fall, and all kinds of debris that showed up when the snow melted. Spring clean-up is basically giving your property a fresh start before everything starts growing again.

We rake out all the old leaves and dead stuff from your beds. Pull out any branches that came down over winter. Edge the beds so they look clean again instead of all grown over. Alot of properties near the Weston Reservoir especially need this because they get so much wind and branch damage.

The thing about spring clean-up is timing matters. You got to do it after the ground thaws but before everything leaf's out. Wait to long and your trying to work around new growth. Do it to early and the ground is still frozen. We usually hit most properties in Weston between late March and early May depending on how fast spring comes that year.

One client on Highland Street said there yard looked "10 years younger" after we finished there spring clean-up. That's the difference it makes when you get all that winter mess cleared away.

Fall Clean-Up

Fall in Weston is beautiful with all the old trees changing colors. But then those leaves come down and you realize you got a problem. Some properties have so many mature trees that they get buried in leaves - were talking like 6 or 8 inches deep in some spots.

Fall clean-up means getting rid of all those leaves before winter. If you leave them sitting on your lawn all winter, the grass underneath basically suffocates and dies. Come spring you got dead patches everywhere. Plus wet leaves get really slippery and can be dangerous on walkways.

We blow out all the beds, rake the lawn areas, and haul everything away. For bigger properties near the Country Club or along Merriam Street, this can take a full day or more. Those old estates have SO many trees.

The leaves usually start really coming down around mid-October here. By late November most trees are bare. We try to time it so we do the clean-up after most leaves are down but before the ground freezes. Otherwise your paying for multiple clean-ups or stuff gets left until spring.

Some people ask why not just mulch the leaves with a mower? You can do that if you don't have to many. But when your lawn is covered, mulching them just makes a mess and still smothers the grass.

Bi-Weekly Weeding

Here's the truth about weeds - there relentless. You pull them one week and there back two weeks later. Its like they never left. Bi-weekly weeding keeps them from taking over your beds and making your property look neglected.

Every two weeks during the growing season (usually May through September), we go through your planting beds and pull weeds. Not just the big obvious ones, but the little ones to before they get established. This keeps your beds looking maintained instead of overgrown.

Properties in Weston seem to get alot of those creeping weeds that spread through the beds. Japanese knotweed is pretty common around here to. Once that stuff gets started its really hard to get rid of. Regular weeding catches it early.

The bi-weekly schedule works because it keeps you ahead of the weeds instead of always playing catch-up. If you wait a month between weeding's, the weeds get bigger, spread more, and take way longer to remove. Plus they start going to seed and making more weeds.

Some of the commercial properties we work with on Route 30 really benefit from this service. When clients or customers drive up, the first thing they see is the landscaping. Weedy beds make the whole place look run-down even if the buildings are nice.

Why Regular Landscape Maintenance Beats Doing It Yourself

Look, I get it. Your thinking "I can do this stuff myself and save some money." And maybe you can. But here's what most people find out - it takes way longer than you think. That spring clean-up you figured would take a Saturday? Turns into a whole weekend plus the next Saturday to.

Plus you got to have the right equipment. Not just a rake and some bags. You need blowers, good quality tools, a way to haul stuff away. All that adds up fast.

The bigger thing is consistency. You start out strong in May, maybe keep up through June. Then it gets hot, you get busy, and suddenly its August and you haven't touched the beds in a month. Now the weeds are out of control and your basically starting over.

We work with alot of property managers in Weston who used to try handling landscaping in-house. They always say the same thing - it pulls there maintenance staff away from other stuff and still doesn't get done right. Better to have someone who does landscaping all day every day.

Landscaping FAQ's

  • How much does landscaping service cost in Weston?

It really depends on your property size and what you need done. A basic spring clean-up for a regular residential lot might run a few hundred dollars. Bigger properties or ones with alot of beds and trees cost more because theres more work. We can give you a quote after seeing your property since every place is different.

  • When should I schedule spring clean-up?

Best time is usually mid-April to early May around here. You want the ground thawed and dried out enough to work but you dont want to wait til everything is already growing. If you call us in March we can get you on the schedule for the right time.

  • Do I need to be home when you do the work?

Nope. Most of our clients arent home when we come. As long as we can access the areas that need work, were all set. We'll leave everything cleaned up and looking good. Some people like to be there the first time just to show us anything specific, but after that its not necessary.
